GREATER DOVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY MINUTES APRIL 20, 2006 President Ron Botterbusch called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. The minutes were approved by Lori Koch and Larry Law, all members agreed. Norma sent a thank you letter to Dover Township for the $100.00 donation from the Wallace fund and a thank you letter to Calvary Lutheran Church thanking them for the use of their building for the meetings. Attention was brought to activities for Wellsville and West Manchester Historical societies. Wellsville is sponsoring a self guided house tour on Sunday April 30 in Wellsville. Jim McClure from the York Daily Record will be speaking at W.M.H.S. on June 19, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Treasurer's report given by Joyce Law for Bob Merkert, Beginnnig balance is $2339.31, Income is $107.08, and Expenses are $128.31, with an ending balance of $2318.08. Archivist report given by Dr.Charles Drawbaugh. A donation was presented from Ethel Fitzkee, Flood pictures of 1975, Agnes Flood 1972, Dover High banner -1943, Dover sports letter D, picture of Detters Mill covered bridge. Gayle Heagy was sick and could not attend, Dr. Drawbaugh commended her on the fine job she did on the record book that she made up listing the entries of all the donations to the archives. There are approximately 160 deposits to the archives; most deposits have at least six items within each deposit. Charles showed the article that he wrote for the Township newsletter. He also spoke at the AARP meeting on April 13th. He presented a check for $50.00 to the society from the Dover AARP chapter. Board of directors report by Madelyn Shermeyer. There was discussion on the picture frames that Larry Law is making using the lumber from the Blacksmith shop. Lori Koch suggested that we should charge $15.00 instead of the $12.00 that the board suggested. A rough draft of a letter to E.G. Stoltzfus was presented to the board by Pres. Ron Botterbusch. The letter was approved as written. The rent on the storage unit will be $46.00 starting June (we are now paying $23.00). There will be a work day in May, the storage building will be cleaned out and the items from the storage unit will be moved. Bloodroot Madelyn had the typed copies of Bloodroot 1 & 2. June Kinsey will proof read them and make any needed corrections. Norma Botterbusch and Joyce Law made a motion to order 150 copies, all members agreed. Laser printing can be used; re-orders can be made by ordering 50 books at a time. The books will be spiral bound and the picture from Bloodroot 2 will be used on the front cover. Blacksmith shop report by Larry Law. The screening is down on the floor (April 18). Workday scheduled for laying of the bricks is April 22, rain date will be April 29. Larry and Ted Ziegler showed the society the wire mesh material that will be used to cover the windows. Joyce Law reported that the windows should be re-painted white, all members agreed. She will take them home and paint them. Quilt raffle report from Norma Botterbusch. Tickets can be picked up at the Jewelry store; the quilt will be displayed at the concerts in the park. Norma and Ron took the Quilters to Dover Valley Restaurant for lunch. Beverly Lee also made up another wall hanging. Joyce Law reported that Brett Pfleiger showed her how to put information on the website. Jay Stouch stated that he is in agreement concerning having an attorney write an agreement between him and the society concerning the Stouch diaries. Lucia Hrinyak received forms from the state concerning the Adopt-A-Highway program. We did receive our first choice of the Dover Borough line to Skytop Trail. It will take about four months to complete all the paper work. Lucia read over a list of rules and regulations related to the process of picking up the trash. Ron Botterbusch signed the necessary paperwork. Lucia will return them to the state. The state will erect signs. More details to follow. Lucia also reported on the gardens that surround the storage building in the Alda Ketterman Park. Joyce Law reported that there were 6159 volunteer hours for the year 2005. She sent the 990 form in to the state. The Historical walk led by Kay Stitley will be held on Tuesday June 20, 2006 starting at the Log house at 6:00 p.m. Two additional stops requested this year are the cemetery on Fairview and the Blacksmith shop. Old Business Concert in the park Madelyn Shermeyer There is a sign-up sheet for volunteers to sign up to work during May, June, July, August and September. Volunteers need to be there at 4:45 p.m. We need to provide change. A sign will be made up listing the items for sale. Kay Stitley reported that her son Rob Stitley will do a drawing in line and ink of the blacksmith shop to be used on the web page and to be used for stationary. Larry Law reported that Ken Brown got the chestnut board back from the Forrys. This will be used for the sign above the door of the blacksmith shop. There is a sign to the rear of the storage building that reads Future project of the Greater Dover Historical Society The word future will be removed. Ron Botterbusch thanked Kay Stitley for providing the refreshments for tonights meeting and to Grace Trimmer for assisting her. Norma and Grace will provide refreshments for the May 18, meeting.
