General Note
George Frederick's oldest son, John Jacob Pflieger, lived in the York, PA, area and is generally referred to as Jacob Pflieger. Three of George Frederick's sons, George Frederick (Jr.), Abraham, and John Michael, moved to Virginia in the early 1800's. The name spelling of that branch of the family was changed from Pflieger to Phlegar. John Pflieger lived in the York County or Abbottstown, PA, area. Based on information from his mother's will, Henry lived in the York area. At this point, no information is available regarding where George Frederick's other children lived.

There are several sources of information used - Margaret E. Pflieger, Historical Society of York County, D.A.R Records, Frederick Lee Pflieger, Michael C. Gulden, Dorothy Hall Givens' book.

Margaret E. Pflieger's notes refer to George Frederick's wife as Anna Maria Margaret Trout. Elsewhere she is referred to as Maria Margaret Trout, in addition to several other variations.

The following information is from Margaret E. Pflieger's notes:

The Kain statement is no longer attached to the application at D.A.R. Headquarters as of May 15, 1992, nor is the statement available from the surviving law firm in York, PA. A further check was made by contacting Mr. William Kain, son?? of George Hay Kain, and retired partner of the law firm. He did not remember the statement and believed that all such old correspondence was destroyed over the ensuing years.

The following comments are by David R. Stephenson III pointing out a possible discrepancy in the immigration description of George Frederick Pflieger. Dorothy Hall Givens' book gives the following account of the emigration of George Frederick:

George Frederick Phlugar, grandsire of the Floyd and Giles County Phlegars, was born in Saxony, Germany, in August 1735. He was the same Georg Frederick Pflieger, note the spelling, who came to America on 17 Sept 1753 on the ship Richard and Mary, from Rotterdam, last from Cowes, per the I. Daniel Rupp, Ship Load Volume - Immigrants to Pennsylvania, 1727-1776. He settled in York Township, York County, Penna.

The above account does not match the information researched by Margaret E. Pflieger:

"Hans Georg Frederick Pfluger was one the 107 Palatines who came to this country in the ship Samuel in 1731, landing at Philadelphia, with his wife Maria, a son Jacob, and a daughter Maria Catrina. They crossed to the west side of the Susquehanna River, and settled in that part of the country which became York County in 1749. Immediately upon his arrival, he affiliated with the German Lutherans in this vicinity. His name appeared on the list of male members of Christ Lutheran congregation, York, in the very early days of the Stoever pastorate, 1733. In this church record we also find the baptism of his son George Frederick in 1735, and the marriage of this daughter, Maria Catrina Pflieger to John Causeller, 1742".

Letters from other Pflieger family researcher, Eula Willis Bell, and Michael C. Gulden also mention the same sequence of events.

In addition, Hans George Frederick's will (George Frederick's father) was dated Dec 10, 1753 and probated sometime in 1754 (see copy in file FTWILLS). His will lists all three of his children by name. George Frederick is referred to as his youngest son (Jacob being the eldest).

According to Michael Gulden, there was another George Frederick Pflieger that immigrated Sep 12, 1753, as recounted above in Ms. Givens' book, and moved into the Lancaster, PA area. He married Agnes Dorothy Mensch and had two daughters plus other children. Based on his research, I don't believe that Ms. Givens' George Frederick is the same one found by Margaret Pflieger and Michael Gulden in their research.
