| 730pm President Ron Botterbusch brought the meeting to order and introduced our two new members, Larry Law and Jay Stouch. At this time, President Ron turned the meeting over to Dr. Drawbaugh, our Archivist. | |
| Dr. Drawbaugh donated a number of items to the Archives. One was a book of pictures concerning the architecture of Dover Borough Homes; another book of pictures of the churches of Dover and a post card dated December 31 1905 that at one time belonged to George N Lecrone. The postcard was for his POS of A dues for 27 weeks at a cost of $2.70. Dr. Drawbaugh also showed us the 2004 Dover High School Alumni book that will be donated to the Archives at the time of his death. It was at this time Dr. Drawbaugh gave a short history about Oliver Stouch and his general store that was located on North Main Street and Butter Road. At this time, Jay Stouch informed the attending members that Oliver Stouch, his great grandfather, had kept a diary concerning the events of Dover from 1865 to 1896. Jay has agreed that the Society will transcribe the 30 years of diaries for him so that he may have them published. The Society will be able to use the transcribed notes for historical research. We thank Jay for his generous donation of these diaries they will give us a glimpse of what life was like in Dover in the past. | |
| Secretary read the minutes from the June 17th meeting. To Be Amended; Under NEW BUSINESS Dover Borough will be fixing the mechanism of the clock not the entire clock tower. Motion to accept the meeting minutes made by Dr Drawbaugh and Larry Law. All members agreed. The July meeting was our picnic. | |
| Bob Merkert gave the Treasurers report and motion to accept was made by Jan Eisenhart and Madelyn Shermeyer. All members agreed. | |
| Assistant Archivist Gayle Heagy informed us the tumblers for the Jacob Joner safe have been corrected and the safe is in working order. | |
| Joyce Law gave web page report. The following articles have been added to the website: Hysterical Historicals; Dover Salem Cemetery; Meisenhelder Burial Grounds records; additional baptism and cemetery records; picture of the original York Bank and Trust Co and then and now of Nellies Restaurant. |
OLD BUSINESS;
| The site for our building at Alda Ketterman Park has been readied for the delivery of the storage building sometime next week. | |
| The trash bags have been ordered and paid in full and we are awaiting delivery. | |
| The wood at the Spahr barn is scheduled to be moved on Saturday, September 18 beginning at 8am. There is a name change from Spahr Springhouse/Distillery to the Davidsburg Distillery. This is the way the property is listed on the National Register/Listed and Eligible Properties. | |
| The Dover Borough Historic Walk will form a committee at the September 16th meeting to update and re-type the information. Kay Stitley asked if anyone had any information to be added let her know. | |
| Norma reported that 50 people attended this years picnic. The next date for the picnic will be July 21 2005. Our quilt will be displayed at our stand at the Dover Firemans Carnival and we will be selling raffle tickets. The winning quilt ticket will be drawn at our 2005 Historic Borough Walk. | |
| Bill Zech updated us concerning Doris Burgers health. She is at Rest Haven but some time next week will be moved to Health Care South. She is very weak but improving a little every day. The attending members signed a Best Wishes card. | |
| The forms for the Pa Department of Revenue and the Bureau of Charitable Organizations will be mailed on Friday, August 20, 2004. Bob Merkert presented a motion to the members for a $15.00 check to be written for the Commonwealth of Pa for the Bureau of Charitable Form BCO-10. Madelyn Shermeyer and Jan Eisenhart made the motion to approve the check and all members agreed. |
NEW BUSINESS:
| At the September meeting the following committees will be formed: Newsletter/Media; Our Town Characters; Dover Borough Historic Walk; List of Historic Homes; Fundraising and Grants. | |
| A comprehensive plan will begin to be discussed by the Board of Directors at a meeting that is to be scheduled by the Secretary. The 2005 budget will also be done at this meeting. |
| Motion to adjourn was made by Bill Zech and Judy Worley. |

The next meeting is our First Annual Members Meeting scheduled for September 16, 2004 at 730pm at the Calvary Lutheran Church.
