Dr. Nathan Wallace was a very influential philanthropist of Dover.  He was a philanthropist due to the fact that Dover and Dover Borough, to this day, are the recipients of the Wallace Fund.” He was influential because of his teaching expertise, whereby he instructed a group of up and coming students who would become premier teachers who taught for 25 whole years in Dover.  He was a remarkable busy and able man, in that he ran the Dover drugstore at his home, he was a Dover Borough Treasurer for five years, head of the Board of Health, and a postmaster for eleven years.  He even was a member of the York County Medical Society, having an avid interest in botany, as well.  This man is reflective of the types of individuals who lived in Dover during this time, 1855 to 1930.
