4TH ANNUAL HISTORICAL WALK

Kay Stitley will once again be conducting the tour through Dover.  We will meet at the Log House on Canal Road across from the Township Building.  We will begin the tour at 6:00 pm.  Don’t forget to invite your friends and neighbors.  Refreshments will be provided; there will be an opportunity for new members to join after the walk.  There will be transportation for those folks that cannot walk.  For information Call Norma Botterbusch 292-7894 or Susan Forrey 292-6190.

THANK YOU

We thank Brett Pfleiger for the very informative presentation that was given on the GDHS Website, at our March meeting.  If you have any information, pictures or historical items that you would like to see on the Website, contact the Society at doverhistory@gdhspa.org.

                                                 APRIL ISSUE – 2004

2ND ANNUAL PICNIC

This year’s picnic will be held on Thursday July 15, 2004 at the pavilion in Lehr Park.  We will start serving at 5:30 pm. The park is located on the Davidsburg Road.  The Society will provide Broasted Chicken, Potatoes, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw and drinks.  We ask the members to bring a dessert or fruit to share.  Please bring the recipe for your Dessert, (provided it is not a guarded family recipe). The picnic is open to members, spouses and children.  We need to have a head count by July 1, 2004.  Please call Norma or Susan or email us.  Come and enjoy a relaxing evening visiting and sharing Historical memories with each other.  We need volunteers to help the refreshment committee with the picnic.  Please call Norma Botterbusch.

QUILT

Our quilters are busy making another quilt for the Historical Society.  The women are working on the quilt in the Social hall of Calvary Lutheran Church.  We will be selling raffle tickets for the quilt again.  The quilt will be on display at the Dover Fireman’s Fair.  It will not be completed by that time, but it will be far enough along that we can display it at the Fair.  Our tentative plans are to have the drawing at our 5th Annual Walk in June of 2005.  Doris Burger is in charge of the Quilt Project. Our goal is to make $3000.00 on this project.

GET WELL SOON

It has been reported to us that one of our members has broken her foot.  We don’t know a lot of the details, and maybe Cathie doesn’t want to publicize the details, but we do give our best to Cathie Lukas and we hope she has a speedy recovery.  Cathie is a valuable member of the Society, she helped to take down the Blacksmith Shop and we need her to help to rebuild later this year.

MEMORIAL

Mae A. Sager passed away on Sunday March 21, 2004 at Manor Care – North.  She was the widow of the late Paul B. Sager.

Mae was born on May 7, 1935 in Dover Township; she was the daughter of the late Christian E. & Verna Neiman Spahr.  Mae was a sister to society members Anna A. Byerts, Dorcas L. Myers and Grace Snelbaker.  Mae was the mother to member Paula M. Zeigler.  We

extend our sympathy to the Sager family.  She will be greatly missed.  We regret that Mae could not be with us to see the restoration of the Spahr Springhouse Mae joined the GDHS in November of 2003.  You can read Mae’s complete obituary on our Website. (WWW.GDHSPA.ORG)
