Board of Directors report – Madelyn Shermeyer – Open house at the blacksmith shop will be held for members only on April 27th, 2007, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will be chaired by June Kinsey. Wine and cheese will be served. There will also be a dedication ceremony open to the public on June 2, 2007. We still need a chairperson for the dedication ceremony. We arc hopeful that someone will step up at the next meeting.

All monies acquired through donations or projects need to be specifically marked and given to Joyce Law or Robert Merkert.

It was suggested that we advertise the dedication services in newspapers, newsletters and pastors or flyers. Also, Kay Stitley asked if we need to check with the Recreation Committee for a schedule of ball games at the Ketterman Park so that we have ample parking for the dedication services

Storage shed report – Larry Law – On September 15, 2006 lumber was moved. Two jacks are needed for the blacksmith shop. Harry Shermeyer will get them. Madelyn Shermeyer calculated the amount of lumber needed for shelving and prices were acquired at Pennsy Supply and Parker Lumber.

Project and Committees reports

1.         Dover Fireman’s Fair report – Kay Stitley read Norma Botterbusch’s report. She thanked those who helped sell quilt tickets and those who helped at the display stand downstairs in the fire hall. The quilt ticket was drawn by Doris Burger and the winner was Taylor Lentz of Dover. Norma also thanked the ladies who created this beautiful quilt. The funds were included in Bob Merkert’s report.

2.         Fall Festival October 7, 2006 11:00 to 6:00 PM – Madelyn Shermeyer asked that anyone preparing food or donating items should include the prices. All foods except soup should be delivered Friday evening and the soup should be brought to the pavilion on Saturday morning. When bringing utensils of your own, please have your name on them. Lewis Kunkle will be getting a hot dog cooker for us to use. A coffee maker and some kettles will be provided.

Old Business ---

1.             Kay Stitley informed us that President Ron Botterbusch checked on carbon monoxide detectors at Lowe’s and they are priced anywhere from $22.00 to $50.00. Ted Ziegler was asked about the levels emitted from the forge. He suggested that we obtain (2) detectors and that they should be mounted 18” from the floor. The receptacles are higher than that in the building so Madelyn suggested that we purchase detectors that have a cord. Harry Shermeyer said that items purchased at stores like Lowe’s’ don’t have any guarantees with them and thought someone should approach electricians Jay Bollinger, Bob Snelbecker, or Ace Hardware for pricing and availability. Motion was made by Madelyn Shermeyer to purchase said items.

2.             Fire Extinguisher – The Boro has a supplier and will put one in the blacksmith shop. They wiII have it checked at no charge to the society.

3.             Grant report – Madelyn Shermeyer – Lori Koch and Madelyn met at the Boro office and filled out the application for the grant. It included the following:

a.      (10) historical plaques on buildings $50-100 each

b.      Storage for shelving $300.00

c.      Blacksmith Shop bar stock, tooling and stamp $2250.00

d.      Landmark Community - $550.00

e.      Office supplies for archives $500.00

f.        Map cabinet $1000.00

Approximate grant in the amount of $5350.00.

A tracking number was assigned on Tuesday September 19, 2006 and Bev Macareth’s secretary can keep track of it for us. It will take at least six (6) months to obtain funds. Lori Koch wrote a narrative to go along with the application. Those present thanked the women for their hard work.

New Business –

Nominating Committee – The committee consists of Pat Herman, Lucia Hrinyak, Connie Miller and Lois Slothower. Each member will be contacted and asked to run for an office or to volunteer for a committee. Each member will be asked to attend the October members meeting.

The Christmas Tree Lighting will be Friday, November 24, 2006. Coffee, hot chocolate and cookies will be served and Lori Koch will chair this event.

A kerosene chandelier was donated by Duane Bollinger. The chandelier was originally hanging in the Davidsburg Church. When the church was to be sold, Harlan Bollinger obtained the lamp. The chandelier then went up for sale by Mike Stermer auctioneer. At that time, Duane purchased the lamp and gave it to the society.  All of the globes and other fixtures are intact. Madelyn Shermeyer was hoping that the chandelier could be hung in the blacksmith shop and be lit for the dedication ceremony. This will be brought up at a later meeting.

The community dedication of the blacksmith shop will be held in June, 2007. A chair person is needed for this event. We will ask the members at the October meeting for volunteers.

Budget _ all committee chair persons were told to fill out a budget form and return it for the October meeting. Harry Shermeyer made mention to the fact that we have no young people involved in the society. He was wondering how to get them involved. The question was asked if the High School should be contacted. Lori Koch mentioned the community service that each student has to do to graduate. Mr. Williams at the Dover High School is the person to contact.

Ted Ziegler and Larry Law are going to Ohio for a blacksmith meeting. We are in need of a blower for the forge and they asked if they could have monies to purchase one. It was stated that $200.00 was marked at an earlier meeting for this purchase. Madelyn Shermeyer made the motion and it was seconded by Joyce Law. Motion carried.

Lewis Kunkle will provide a hot dog machine for the Fall Festival.

Harry Shermeyer asked if anyone has four cement blocks to shore up the jack at the blacksmith shop. Jeff Koch will provide them.

The next meeting wiII be held on October 19, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.  The meeting was adjourned.
