GDHS MEETING MINUTES                                          MARCH 17, 2005

  • 630PM – Board of Directors Meeting was held
  • 730pm – Regular Business meeting was opened by President Ron Botterbusch
  • Wayne Gross made a presentation to the Society Archives on behalf of his wife Ledora Miller Gross and her sisters Lindy Miller Uffleman and Shawna Miller Meiser. The item presented was an album of photos from the grade school once located on Canal Street about 1936.
  • The Secretary read the minutes from the February meeting. A correction was made to correct the spelling of the Lady Quilters names: Carlotta Thomas not Charlotte and Lori Bernhard not Bernard. Motion to approve the minutes made by Melvin Miller and Betty Klinedinst. All members agreed.
  • Bob Merkert read the Treasurers report. Motion to approve made by Madelyn Shermeyer and Kay Stitley. All members agreed. Bob informed us that 3 people need to submit their volunteer hours to complete Form 990. Those members will fill out the form at the end of the meeting.
  • No Archives report was given. Dr. Drawbaugh had knee surgery and Assistant Archivist Gayle Heagy was sick.
  • Brett Pfleiger reported that the following articles were put on the website: members list for 2005, another Hysterical Historical, the picture of the Lady Quilters and the minutes from the February meeting. Brett informed us that he was helping Leslie, from the East Berlin Historical Society, about website information. Brett also explained that with the web host problem we are having we should change to another web host. Madelyn Shermeyer made the motion: Larry Law seconded the motion. All members agreed to change the web host in May.
  • Joyce Law reported that Stouch Diaries – years 1865 to 1870 have been transcribed, indexed, edited, corrected and re-typed for Jay to review. Diary year 1871 is transcribed and sent to Sue Forrey for edit and correction. Joyce and Larry are working on Diary 1872.
  • No Blood Root project report was given.
  • Susan Forrey updated the members concerning the Blacksmith Shop Project.  The Artisan meeting held March 9th went well. Many questions were answered and a time frame was temporarily scheduled. One Saturday will be scheduled to raise the framework of the shop. April 13th at 7pm at the Calvary Church is the meeting for all the volunteers.  Susan also informed the members that letters were sent to Spangler’s Hardware, 3 truss companies and the roofing companies in Dover asking for their support in this project. Ted Ziegler, our Blacksmith, suggested we use a dark stain on the truss work. (Noted by Susan). Madelyn Shermeyer asked about the electrical inspection of the shop. President Ron will follow up.
  • Secretary Susan informed the members about the annual Publick Tyme in Dillsburg scheduled for 8am to 4pm on May 21st. We are asking volunteers to help set up a table to present the history of Dover. 
  • President Ron read a letter from Manchester Historical Society inviting us to a presentation they are sponsoring on April 20 at 7pm. The presentation is President Wives by Ellen Finley.
  • Quilt tickets are still available and don’t forget to get your trash bags.
  • Doris Burger showed us a sample of the next queen size quilt the Lady Quilters will be making for the Society. The pattern is called Double Pinwheel. Tickets will be available for sale for this quilt starting January 1 2006 and the winning ticket will be pulled at the Dover Fireman’s Carnival.  
  • Susan Forrey asked volunteers to help gather historical items from the Gerber House before it is demolished to make room for Terra Vista, a housing development. Madelyn gave us additional information about the house from Bill Gerber and his daughter Ellen.
  • Randy Worley gave a report about the class he and other members attended at Historic York on March 14. The class was very informative about how to architecturally classify a house.
  • Motion to adjourn made by Betty Klinedinst and Norma Botterbusch. 23 members in attendance. Next meeting scheduled for April 21 with speaker Thomas Gibbs.
