MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 17 2005
- 7pm – Special
Meeting concerning Sales Tax Exemption Criteria.
- 740pm –
President Ron Botterbusch called the business meeting to order.
- Lady Quilters
Beverly Lee, Lori Bernhard, Rita Walsh and Society member Doris Burger
presented the finished Quilt to the Society. Absent were: Faye Decker,
Ruth Ann Hallman, Carol Leathery and Charlotte Thomas. The ladies quilted
about 2 hours a week for about 8 months to make the queen size quilt. The
pattern is called Lovers Knot.
- President Ron
asked if any member did not receive their 2005 membership badge and card
to see him after the meeting.
- Secretary read
the minutes for the January 20 2005 meeting. President Ron asked how the
last name of Charlie Arntzberger was spelled. The Secretary will note the
correct spelling of Charlie’s last name - A-R-T-Z-B-E-R-G-E-R [delete the
n]. Motion to approve the minutes made by Larry Law and Norma Botterbusch.
All members agreed.
- Treasurers report was
given by Bob Merkert. Motion to approve made by Madelyn Shermeyer and
Larry Law. All members agreed.
- Dr. Drawbaugh
had no Archives report.
- Assistant
Archivist Gayle Heagy stated the children’s books from the Spahr house are
very moldy and may not be worth keeping.
Gayle told us that Mindy Higgins, from Historic York, scheduled a
class on March 8 from 9am to noon to help us with our Dover Borough Homes
Project.
- Web Page report
was given by Joyce Law. Brett is working on the web host problem. The 2005
Membership List, minutes from January meeting, Items for sale at the store
and the Trolleys in Dover
article were added to the web page this month.
- President Ron
informed the group, Dover Borough and Township Offices were working with
an advertisement company making a map of the streets and points of
interest that will eventually be sent to every resident at no charge. The
Society will place an article on our web site concerning this project.
- Our Historian
Norma Botterbusch told us she is working on the 2005 scrapbook.
- Joyce Law
updated the members concerning the Oliver Stouch diaries. There are now
four books completed [1865,1866,1867,1868].
These books will be given back to Jay Stouch
and she and Larry will continue to transcribe the next set of books. President
Ron showed the members a published book compiled from the diaries of a young
man from Schroon Lake, New York. He has two copies if anyone is
interested in reading this book.
- There was no
Bloodroot report.
- Norma informed
the members that quilt tickets are still available and can be purchased at
the Jewelry store or from any member. She will be setting up a table at
the Dover Borough Fire Company Supper on February 26 and a table at the
Morning Star Market.
- President Ron
informed the group that trash bag sales are steady.
- Susan Forrey
informed the group an Artisan Meeting for the Blacksmith Shop Project, has
been scheduled for March 9 at 7pm at Calvary Church.
April 13 at 7pm at the Calvary
Church, the
volunteers for this project will meet.
She reminded the members the sign up sheet was at the sign in
table.
- Assistant
Archivist Gayle Heagy showed the members a picture of the 1929 Dover
Baseball Team and asked if anyone could name the persons in the picture.
- Norma
Botterbusch has been named Fundraiser Chairperson. Congratulations Norma.
- Secretary Susan
Forrey informed the group the Northern York County Historical and
Preservation Society invited us to set up a booth during their Publick
Tyme at Dills. The gathering is scheduled for May 21 from 8am to 4pm. A
social at the Tavern on May 20 will start at 6pm. Refreshments and tours
are provided by the Society. Bill Zech said he has a canopy the Society
could use. Thank you Bill.
