GDHS MEETING MINUTES                                     NOVEMBER 18, 2004

bullet730PM – President Ron brought the meeting to order. He thanked everyone who sent his or her love and support to him during and after his operation.
bulletDr. Drawbaugh introduced Clair and Wayne Fickes. Clair donated a $10.00 note, circa 1902 with the name National Bank of Dover.
bulletSecretary read the minutes from the October 21st meeting. Motion to accept the minutes made by Madelyn Shermeyer and Gayle Heagy. All members agreed.
bulletBob Merkert read the Treasurers report. Motion to accept the report made by Jan Eisenhart and Melvin Miller. All members agreed.
bulletArchivist Dr. Drawbaugh gave the roll of the original Contributors List to the Lenhart-Gerber Cemetery to Assistant Archivist Gayle Heagy.
bulletAssistant Archivist Gayle Heagy told the members that storage unit K-16 was emptied and she is still reviewing the scrapbooks from the Dover High School Library we received at last meeting.
bulletGrace Spahr Snelbaker brought more items to be donated to the Archives. The wooden table was from Calvin Spahr family; the ice cream maker and the butter churn from the Neiman part of the family and the wooden bowl and spatula were used to make butter.
bulletThe web report was given by Brett Pfleiger. He listed updates and some changes he made.
bulletThere was no Historian report.

OLD BUSINESS:

·        Gayle Heagy reviewed the Landmarks Committee agenda for 2005. Historic York will hold classes to teach us about the architecture of our Dover Borough Homes as well as all the details of the moldings. She also discussed that when it is determined that a house is of historic vintage a plaque will be affixed to that house – pending approval by the homeowner.

·        Joyce Law reviewed Jay Stouchs diaries. There are 3 completed and have to be reviewed for accuracy. Jay brought 5 more books with him this evening to make sure Joyce stays busy during the winter months.

·        Trash bags can be purchased at Taylors Treasures, Botterbusch Jewelers or any member for $4.00 for 25 bags and 200 bags for $30.00. They are the 33 gallon size and 1-mil thick.

·        Contractor Rodney Anderson was approved by the Board to pour the foundation for the Blacksmith Shop.

·        Quilt tickets are still available from Taylors Treasures, Botterbusch Jewelry or any member. They are $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5.00.

·        Sue Forrey showed and reviewed the pieces of pottery that will be made available for sale on our website as a fundraiser and can also be purchased at Taylors Treasures on the square of Dover. There are crocks of varying sizes, coffee mugs, Christmas balls and plates available.

·        Melvin Miller told the attending members of an upcoming event for the West Manchester Historical Society. December 6th 2004 at 7PM at the West Manchester Township Building June Lloyd from York Historic Trust will be the speaker to discuss Genealogy.

·        The Secretary announced that the BCO certificate, The Dept of Revenue Tax Exempt certificate and the Small Games of Chance License were received this past month.

·        Madelyn Shermeyer told the members that the Bloodroot Books Volumes 1 through 5 were delivered to Joe Marx.

·        Randy Worley asked about a “refreshment breakout “ during the meeting – and President Ron told him it was okay for him to do that.

·        Maddie stated she would check with the Township to see if any permits were needed for Ken Brown Construction to start Phase 1 at the Distillery. A discussion about making the lease payment to Michael Barshinger was discussed but was tabled pending the outcome of Gayle Heagy checking with an attorney.

·        Dr. Charles Drawbaugh then read Article 5 Section 2 of the By-laws concerning the election of Officers. The attending members unanimously agreed that the following officers will be inducted at the January 16th meeting:  President Ronald Botterbusch – Vice president Kay Stitley – Secretary Susan Forrey – Treasurer Robert Merkert – Archivist Dr. Charles Drawbaugh – Historian Norma Botterbusch. The Executive Staff are: Assistant Archivist Gayle Heagy and Bookkeeper Joyce Law. Members were asked if they agreed that the officers and Executive staff be retained till November 2005. All members agreed. No nays.

·        Motion to adjourn made by Randy Worley and Jan Eisenhart.

There were 21 members present and 2 guests.

Next meeting is January 16th, 2004 at 730pm at the Calvary Church.
