bullet740PM – President Ron Botterbusch brought the meeting to order. Our condolences went out to our member Grace Spahr Snelbaker concerning the death of her sister Mae Sager. (Obituary notice is posted on our website)
bulletSecretary Susan Forrey read the minutes. Madelyn Shermeyer requested the minutes be amended to add: Grace Spahr Snelbaker is not only a direct descendant to the Spahr Springhouse Project but also to our Neiman Blacksmith Shop Project. Motion to accept the minutes made by Kay Stitley and Norma Botterbusch. All members agreed.
bulletTreasurers Report by Bob Merkert – March 31 2004 balance $3550.05. Motion to approve treasurers’ report made by Madelyn Shermeyer and Jan Eisenhart. All members agreed.
bulletArchives Report by Dr Drawbaugh – an undated picture of the Detters Mill Dam was donated to the Society.
bulletAssistant Archivist Gayle Heagy read to us some interesting facts she found in the Boro safe concerning Boro ordinances. The members voted and agreed that we should have a new section added to the website and our Newsletter, using the title “Hysterical Historicals”.
bulletJoyce Law gave Website report. Joyce went through the updates that have been added to the website since the last meeting. (Under the heading OTHER LINKS on the website is the entry RECENT UPDATES). Joyce noted that Mrs. Crone, from Rohlers Church is very pleased to see the amount of information available on the website.
bulletAt this time Grace Spahr Snelbaker showed some of her donated items to the Society Archives. A number of items from both sides of her family were donated such as the suit H.C. Spahr owned and pictures of Henry and Nettie Neiman and their family. We thank Grace for her donations.
bulletSusan Forrey updated the members concerning the Blacksmith Shop Project. (See attached copy of update). Madelyn Shermeyer would like to know how many bricks would be needed to re-build the forge. Susan will try to get a brick estimate for Maddie. Ron Botterbusch informed the members that through EBAY he purchased a 175-pound anvil dated about 1850-1875 for the Blacksmith shop. The final cost was $223.00. Jan Eisenhart informed the members that the excavating for Ketterman Park will be done by July 4th.
bulletSusan Forrey also updated the members concerning the Bloodroot Project. Ron and Susan will do the final edit and submit the first book to the Board to be approved. The papers will then be given to Teacher Joe Marx for his class to retype and publish our book. We should have the finished product by January 2005 for sale to the public.
bulletGayle Heagy will be contacting the Laird Safe Company concerning the Jacob Joner safe.
bulletThe barn being torn down along the alley in the Boro and owned by the Deller family is being dis-mantled, numbered and mapped for reconstruction in Maryland.
bulletNorma Botterbusch updated us concerning the picnic, which will be held July 15 at Lehr Park, along the Davidsburg Road in Dover Township. Members are asked to bring a dessert or salad. The Society will supply everything else.
bulletMadelyn discussed the pamphlet used in the Historic Walking Tour. Corrections were to be made by a senior high school student but unsure of the status of this project to date. Kay Stitley will do a follow-up.
bulletNEW BUSINESS: Purchase of an Archive Building – the proposed size is 14x40 barn style with high walls for $7289.00.  Many locations were mentioned such as the Jaycees Bldg in the Boro; Ketterman Park at the Blacksmith Shop; Craig Gross Barn (Randy Worley will do a follow up); Feed Mill owned by the Straley family (Bob Merkert will do a follow up).
bulletSusan Forrey is still pursuing and following up on the Gerber House on Davidsburg and Admire Roads.
bulletQuilt should be ready for display at the Dover Carnival in September. Tickets will go on sale at that time.
bulletApril 24, 2004 is the 120-day time limit set by the IRS for our Form 1023 filing for Non-profit status. To date – we have heard nothing.
