GDHS MEETING MINUTES AUGUST
18 2005
- 655PM – Board of Directors Meeting
- 730pm – President Ron brought the meeting to
order
- President Ron informed the attending members the
Board accepted Gage Kosters landscape proposal for the Blacksmith Shop.
- The Secretary read the minutes from the June 16th
meeting and told the members the final count for the picnic was 49. Motion
to approve the minutes made by Madelyn Shermeyer and Joyce Law. All
members agreed.
- In the Treasurers absence, President Ron gave the
following financial report: Receipts $740.59 of which $500.00 was a
donation from the Borough of Dover: Expenses $196.91 for the picnic posted
under Refreshment Committee Picnic Fund for a bank balance around
$2000.00. Motion to accept made by Mel Miller and Norma Botterbusch. All
members agreed.
- At this time, the Board of Directors voted on the
Quicken upgrade. All three Board members agreed – Madelyn Shermeyer, Gayle
Heagy and Kay Stitley. Joyce was told to purchase the upgrade for the
accounting program.
- Dr Drawbaugh gave the Archives report. Helen
Weigel donated a sweater showing the 1945-1995 50th Anniversary
of the Dover Fireman’s Fair on it, pins from the 1964 Dover Bicentennial,
calendars and information about the Dover High School class of 1947 / Dr.
Drawbaugh donated his 1943 FFA jacket, the first year they were made with
his name “Charlie” embroidered. Dr. Drawbaugh asked the members if they
could think of any ideas how to get more people to donate items to the
Archives. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided that Dr. Drawbaugh
contact the AARP and schedule a meeting with them. A group of Society
members will be present at this meeting and discuss the Society and our
Archives. Madelyn will contact the Women of Today group. It was suggested
a flyer be made hi-lighting the Society and Archives. Gayle Heagy will
follow up and present a drafted version. Madelyn Shermeyer asked if the
members would like to have a “mule drag” for dirt roads. Wayne and Mary
Hoffman have this item and wish to donate it to the Archives. Madelyn will
obtain the item and store it at her house. {The mule drag was: used three
mules to pull this item and make the dirt roads smooth. Boards were used
at the base and the man would stand behind the mules as they drug the
item. Irvin Spahr used it last.
- Fundraising Chairperson Norma stated that Mary
Bair won the quilt raffle. Norma has her carnival book to volunteer for
time slots at the stand. Norma asked if anyone has any articles for the
newsletter make sure she gets them this week.
NEW BUSINESS:
- NEW BUSINESS: a motion was made to move the
Annual Members Meeting from September 17th to October 15.
Motion to approve made by Lucia Hrinyak and Doris Burger. All members
agreed.
- The Secretary discussed the criteria for the
nominating Committee. Members Joyce Law, Betty Klinedinst and Susan Forrey
volunteered.
OLD BUSINESS;
- Madelyn stated that Jim asked the members to
re-think their position concerning the volumes combined for the Bloodroot
Project. He stated Volumes 1,2 and 3 would be about ¾” thick and would not
be a good idea. He suggested combine Volumes 1 and 2 and sell for $10 to
$15. He cannot make a sample book, only a few sample pages. Madelyn also
told the members the Township would copy the Township meeting minute books
onto discs. There are no copyright
issues since they are public records.
- Susan Forrey informed the attending members
September 17th and October 15th are the next 2
workdays for the Blacksmith Shop.
- Lucia told us that since May 3rd her
group of volunteers have met 10 times to work on landscaping the Archives
Building. Anyone who donated plants can drop them off at Lucia’s house
between September 1 thru the 6th or at the Archives Building on
September 7, which is the next workday for that committee.
- Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Betty
Klinedinst and Phyllis Wolgamuth. All members agreed.
