COMMITTEE REPORTS

Landmark Committee – Gayle Heagy reported on the status of the historic house plaques.  Gayle stated the plaques have been ordered and she had a plaque here if any member would like to see it.    The plaque reads “Greater Dover Historical Society Inc. designated historic site”.   Gayle reported the committee will meet soon to determine where the first group of plaques will be installed – 3 sites in the Borough and 1 in the Township have been selected to date.  Lucia Hrinyak reported the Landmark Committee has met but nothing has been formalized yet.  There are certain criteria they are following to determine which homes/sites will receive the plaques, such as age of the structure, architectural style, integrity of the property, relocation of property to present site, importance of home’s occupant(s) to the Dover area, etc.

Bloodroot – no report

Adopt-a-Highway – no report

Landscaping Committee – Lucia Hrinyak reported the winter cleanup session will be on April 6 at 9am (rain date is April 8).  Lucia stated that in May or early June, the committee will be spreading mulch and doing general maintenance of the gardens.

Board of Directors’ report – no report was presented since there was not a quorum of members present.   President Shermeyer stated the Board will need to meet to discuss the price for the notepaper and the website email address which is invalid.

OLD BUSINESS

Annual craft day – President Shermeyer stated we need a chairperson for this event which will be held in June 12, 2011.  It was stated that Cindy Snyder had expressed an interest in helping with this event.

President Shermeyer reminded members to submit their volunteer hours for 2009 to Bill Coleman as this information is important and necessary to order to complete the IRS Form 990.  President Shermeyer stated she visited the IRS website and reported the GDHS can file the E-card since the society has income under $25,000, and she will double check information to see if we are required to complete the Schedule A also.  These forms must be filed in May, which is 5 months after the end of our fiscal year.

NEW BUSINESS

Speakers – President Shermeyer reported she spoke to Don Baughman who indicated he would be available to be our speaker in June since his daughter, Sharon, helps him with the power point presentation.  Mr. Baughman then indicated to President Shermeyer he would be available to speak at our April meeting and President Shermeyer will try to confirm this soon so it can be advertised in the newspaper.  President Shermeyer reported our guest speakers in August will be Ron Botterbusch and Barry Emig on black powder guns.

Blacksmith Shop – President Shermeyer reported there will be 15 scouts from the Wolf Den #22 in Weiglestown at the April 10 BSS open house and asked the members to volunteer to help Jo Ott on that day.  Randy Worley volunteered to help at the open house.

QUESTIONS/COMMENTS

Randy Worley asked when the next litter pickup will be held.   Since Melanie Green is absent, President Shermeyer said we do not know.

President Shermeyer reported that Glenn Enders contacted the Township’s zoning officer to inquire about a demolition permit for the log home on Butter and Nursery Roads.  President Shermeyer contacted Jo Ott to ask if she remembered anything in the home that the society may be interested in acquiring.  Jo suggested the gaslight in one of the bedrooms.  President Shermeyer contacted Mr. Enders to inform him that if they did not plan to keep it, the society would be happy to accept it as a donation even though it is in bad shape.  President Shermeyer reported she received a call from Mr. Enders that they will be donating the gaslight to the GDHS.   It was reported that Historic York had visited the Enders’ property but did not want any part of it.

Vice President Stitley reported that the Wellsville Historical Society is conducting a house tour on Sunday, April 25 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.  Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 if purchased the day of the tour.   Vice President Stitley said that she and Norma Botterbusch are planning to attend and it is a very enjoyable, informative tour.  Proceeds from the tour will help fund the rebuilding of the one-room schoolhouse in Wellsville.

There being no further questions or suggestions from the membership, the meeting was adjourned at 7:51 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Lori Koch, GDHS secretary
