Assistant
Archivist report – Gayle Heagy reported the Landmarks Committee met yesterday and
revised the wording of plaques to the following: “GDHS, Inc. designated historic
structure.” All members present agreed this
would be satisfactory wording for the bronze plaques.
The committee also discussed setting criteria choosing the homes to receive
the plaques, paying for professional installation or doing the installation in-house, and
Gayle is preparing a statement for homeowners to sign.
Gayle reported she received a photo album from the Reba Gross estate which
Jo Ott acquired at the sale.
President
Shermeyer reported that Sam Herman and Wayne Crone spoke to her before the meeting about a
quilt frame. According to Kay Stitley, it has
been at the church as long as she has been a member. The
membership discussed the quilt frame and agreed to accept it as a donation to our archives

Gayle
Heagy reported she received a phone call from Becky Roberts, a volunteer with the York
Heritage Trust, who advised Gayle that the Trust is holding a coverlet registry on October
29. Anyone who has a coverlet is encouraged to
attend and have it registered at the Historic Trust. Gayle
said she had a family coverlet dated 1852 registered.
Lucia Hrinyak asked what the definition of a coverlet is and Cindy Snyder
stated a jacquard coverlet is woven in 2 or 3 colors.
Gayle
Heagy reported that Becky Roberts also talked to her about the “Then and Now”
photograph program at the YHT. The Trust was
asking historical societies to participate by submitting photos at least 50 years old. Gayle said for some reason the GDHS decided not to
participate and now the YHT is asking again for societies north of the city to submit
photos. It was agreed to submit photos of

chilly; there were 8 visitors and $40 collected in items sold and donations.
Website

and his wife at the Dover Fair. Mrs. Pfleiger
said she would send an invoice. The website
needs to be updated.
Fall

Fall Fest. Mrs. Koch reported it was
approximately $540 but she does not have the final report prepared yet. President Shermeyer gave a brief report on the Fall
Fest and stated we will volunteer again next year if asked to do so. She thanked all the volunteers for their hard work.
NEW
BUSINESS
Budget
meeting – President Shermeyer said the Board must choose a date for the annual budget
meeting. It was decided to hold the meeting on
Tuesday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m.
President
Shermeyer reminded members to pick up job descriptions for the officers and Board of
Directors on the table and notify a member of the nominating committee if they are
interested in running for one of the positions. President
Shermeyer also reminded committee chairs to submit their budget requests for 2010 to the
treasurer at this meeting. Members should also
turn in their volunteer hours for 2009 in November since we do not have a meeting in
December. President Shermeyer asked the
following if they will serve again in 2010: Jo
Ott as photographer, Lucia Hrinyak as chair of Landscaping Committee and Gayle Heagy as
Assistant Archivist. All agreed to serve
again.
President
Shermeyer reported that New Hope Ministries will host a holiday tour on December 6. New Hope has requested the Blacksmith Shop be open
that day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. President
Shermeyer talked to Ted, and he agreed to be open as long as weather permits.
President
Shermeyer reported she spoke to Glenn Enders on October 6 and made arrangements to meet
him at his house on October 8 to get some photos of the exposed logs and rabbit foot
painting inside. Jo Ott reported she took some
photos also and will submit one for the newsletter as well as give a CD of photos to the
Enders. Mr. Enders removed a piece of the
ceiling with the wood lathe attached. Ramon
Langione brought in the piece of plaster showing the rabbit foot painting on it. He is very interested in 18th century
architecture; he said the original structure of the Ender’s home is 20’ 4” x 22’ 4”
and the wood lathe is white oak or hickory; the new addition was added after the kitchen
fire; Ramon also suggested the society should acquire a photocopy of the old deed for the
archives. Vice President Kay Stitley stated
when the celebration was held for Maryville, she thought Louella Deardorff had some
information on the Enders’ property; Kay will contact Mrs. Deardorff.
QUESTIONS/COMMENTS
Gayle
Heagy asked if the GDHS is charging a fee for the copies of the photos of the Dover
Coronet Band. It was decided a $10 fee per
photo will be charged. The individuals who
asked for copies at the Dover Fair were told there would be a fee for the photos.
Jo Ott
reported the estate of Reba Gross had Drovers Bank replicas, not Dover National Bank
replicas for sale at the auction. Norma
Botterbusch reported the light at the Blacksmith Shop has been replaced.
There
being no further questions or suggestions from the membership, the meeting was adjourned
